Lymphedema Surgery
Lymphedema Surgery
  • Lymphedema is an abnormal accumulation of fluid in the arms or legs often as a result of cancer treatment, infection or trauma.
  • Long-standing lymphedema frequently presents with recurring skin infections such as cellulitis, and carries a small risk of developing skin cancer (cutaneous angiosarcoma or Stewart Treves Syndrome).
  • There are two techniques that can be used for lymphedema: vascularized lymph node transfer and lymphaticovenous anastomosis.
