Some wounds cannot heal on their own or would take months before they heal predisposing them to infection. Skin grafting involved preparing the wound bed and then harvesting skin from the patient to be placed on the wound. Both the donor site and the wound are expected to heal within 1-2 weeks after the operation. This size and location of the wound will determine whether admission is necessary and the type of anesthesia to be used.
